Basic Midwifery is an introductory course to help prospective midwifery students discern whether the midwifery path is right for them. This course will teach basic midwifery understanding and skills as well as basic midwifery assisting. Students may take this course if they plan to enroll in midwifery school, or to expand on their current knowledge base as a student or childbirth educator. Graduates of this course can receive a certificate of Midwifery Assisting from STMI and will possess the basic skills needed to assist a midwife in practice.

Basic Midwifery contains 10 distinct units. Please make sure to read through all of the materials, watch the videos and do the activities before proceeding on to the next unit. You must complete all assignments to graduate from the course.

In attending this course, you will have access to the student library for any books needed. 

If you are seeking the Midwifery Assisting certificate, you must complete:

  • The entire course 
  • Submit proof of completion for a neonatal resuscitation training
  • Submit proof of completion for an adult CPR training 
  • Complete the in person skills assessment

Welcome to Basic Midwifery! This course is specially designed for those interested in delving into the possibility of pursuing midwifery as a career path. This class qualifies for the basic midwifery education requirement for Sacred Transitions Midwifery Institute's midwifery programs.

This course is also the required course for STMI's Midwife Assistant Certificate.
