Midwifery history, politics and community involvement will be covered in this class. Students will be exposed to the long history of midwifery, from ancient Egypt to the modern day persecution of midwives. The midwife will be seen as a local activist for self ownership and students will be encouraged to become involved in the fight for maternal and women's autonomy. Business practices and ethics will be discussed to this end.
This course will be opened for enrollment soon and can be taken either independently, as a continuing educaion course or as one of the requirements for graduation from Sacred Transitions Midwifery Institute's midwifery programs. Anatomy and Physiology is a beginning and advanced course rolled into one (Anatomy and Physiology 101 and Anatomy and Physiology 201). This course will delve into the basics of human anatomy and physiology including terminology, biochemistry, cellular structure, and the various systems. The reproductive anatomy and physiology is only briefly covered and will be covered more in depth in the sexuality component of this program. An eye is always kept on the connection between all of he body's systems and their relationship to midwifery studies.

This course will delve into the basics of male and female reproductive anatomy and physiology. Once the foundation is laid, the course will venture into the study of female sexuality, well woman healthcare and the transitions of menarche and menopause.

This course will delve into the basics of fetal development and supplemental supportive structures. Nutrition to support pregnancy, teratogens and pregnancy dangers and genetic testing options will also be studied in depth. Rhesus factor will also be studied in correlation to how it supports or hinders fetal growth.
